New Ridge Racer for PS2
Namco made a presentation of their new Playstation2 Ridge Racer game at the recent Tokyo
Game Show. In possesion of the working title New Ridge Racer, the game's demonstration
didn't fail to impress the show atendees, leaving them with great expectations of the final
version contents.
The video shown at the begining of the presentation contained footage of the previous Ridge
Racer games on the Playstation, starting with the original Ridge Racer and ending with Ridge
Racer Type 4. This was a good review of the progress made by the series through its Play-
station career, and set the pace for what was to follow - New Ridge Racer footage.
First into view came Reiko Nagase, Ridge Racer's flag girl, looking as good as ever. The
polygon count was well up, making her look better than she did in the R4 intro. Shortly after-
wards four cars raced into view and powersled through the hi-res city streets, overtaking in
every turn. Imagine R4's intro, but better and in realtime - the graphics are actually that good!
To prove just that, Namco interchanged the actual in-game footage with DVD quality pre-
rendered FMV, and the deviations were seamless!
The game is scheduled for a late 2000 release in Japan, but will not be one of the launch
titles for the Playstation2.
